Letting Go The Horizon
In 1995, Heather and Wyatt, the twins born to my first wife and
myself, graduated from High School. Heather graduated from Irondale
High School and Wyatt graduated from St Louis Park High School.
This was a difficult time for me because I had spent most of the
previous twenty years as a primary caregiver to both of these
children, shuttling them back and forth between their various
activities, cooking for them, planning their schedules, helping them
with schoolwork, videotaping their events, and many other parental
duties. Suddenly, they were graduating from high school and
preparing for, what I thought, would be their own lives.
One of the first big adjustments after their graduation, was the
change in Wyatt's life hockey with hockey. Up to that point, from
the time he started playing in organized hockey (at eight years
old), his life (and the family's life) revolved around the annual
cycle of hockey leagues.
