"Self-liberation, accepting one’s feelings, thoughts of commitment, coming out, and positive support are themes which Wagner feels should be important to our lives.  She wants us to be able to forgive and to heal ourselves, with positive growth replacing the pain...These thoughtful and well-meaning affirmations offer continued positive imagery to help us gain insights into the direction she’s leading us...Lavender Reflections is a marvelous addition to the growing library of books on affirmation."

“All of us deserve to treasure ourselves,” asserts Eleanor Ruth Wagner, in her book Lavender Reflections:  Affirmations for Lesbians and Gay Men. “In a culture that provides too little affirmation, especially to those of us who are lesbian and gay, we need constant reminders of how beautiful we are and how natural our loving is.”

Lavender Reflections is a warm uplifting book that addresses a wide variety of issues relating to same-sex orientation in a thought-provoking manner, stimulating positive self-talk and meditation. Wagner’s goal was to make her book non-judgmental, encouraging people to accept themselves wherever they are in their life journeys.  For example, with respect to the issue of coming out, she discusses the risks as well as the benefits of coming out, while urging readers to trust that whatever decisions they make are the best for them at that time in their lives.  “I didn’t come out to my own mother until two weeks after my book was on the market,” she relates, “But that was right for me.”

Lavender Reflections is unique in offering a delightful array of poignant quotations exclusively by lesbians, gay men, and bisexuals, as well as photographs which include two of same-sex couples.  Powerful images from noted photographer Victor Arimondi vividly bring the words to life.  The book also includes occasional suggestions for personal meditation and space for readers to write their own thoughts.

Special emphasis is given to holidays, since those times are often especially stressful for lesbians and gay men.  The book opens with a birthday affirmation, the holiday that can be the most affirming of all. A work that took over six years to create, Lavender Reflections is a book of enduring power that speaks directly to the hearts of lesbians and gay men.  It is available in bookstores for $10.95.

Eleanor Ruth Wagner, a lesbian who lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is engaged in multiple pursuits, working as an audiologist, growing and selling herbs, doing crafts and photography, and conducting affirmational workshops for lesbians, in addition to her writing. Until recently there were no meditation books written specifically for lesbians and gay men, which is why Wagner decided to write Lavender Reflections. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the College of Wooster and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Illinois. Wagner lives with her partner of 14 years and is the mother of two adult sons.

Victor Arimondi is an internationally celebrated gay photographer and model who was born in Italy and raised in Sweden.  His photographs have been exhibited in San Francisco, Tokyo, Barcelona, Copenhagen, and New York.  Two books of Arimondi’s photography, The Look of Men and Boyfriends, became favorite toppings for gay coffee tables, and he received a grant from the Swedish government for an exhibit entitled, “Absent Friends”, showing 55 models he lost to AIDS.
